The Film Seminar: An Immersive Experience
Every year, Istec offers its third-year bachelor’s students a highlight that has become a must-attend event: the film seminar. A truly immersive experience, this educational event places students at the heart of professional audiovisual production.
From January 12 to 16, 2026, Istec students, joined by third-year Bachelor’s students from SKALE and Saint Aspais Melun, will participate in a new edition of the Art Brain Management seminar, produced by Studio Joli Rouge. Over five days, they will explore the entire filmmaking process, from the conception of an idea to the theatrical screening, in conditions closely resembling those of the professional world.
This edition takes place in the heart of Paris, at two iconic venues in the cultural and audiovisual world. The creation and filming phases are held at Ground Control (Paris 12th arrondissement), a space of over 4,000 m² offering several sets tailored to filming needs. The final screenings, meanwhile, are held at the Les 7 Parnassiens cinema (Paris 14th arrondissement), allowing students to experience the culmination of their project in a real movie theater. This exceptional setting immerses them directly in the reality of the audiovisual sector.
For the 2026 edition, the seminar is introducing a brand-new creative challenge. Students must design an original scene based on a simple sound effect, assigned by random draw. Using this sound element, they will create a story, write a screenplay, direct actors, and handle the production, filming, and editing of their film. Throughout the week, they will be supported and guided by the teams at Studio Joli Rouge.
Supervision is provided by recognized industry professionals specializing in every stage of the creative process: screenwriting, production, acting, editing, and sound design. This edition is also sponsored by Mehdi Maïzi, a music and film journalist at France Inter, who brings his perspective and expertise to the projects.
The seminar is organized into several key phases. The first few days are devoted to pre-production, including forming groups, writing screenplays, pitching ideas, and approving projects. The following days are dedicated to filming and editing, including set organization, post-production work, and the finalization of the films. The week concludes with an official screening at the Les 7 Parnassiens cinema, followed by the jury’s presentation, the selection of the best scene, and a debriefing session.
Through this annual Film Seminar, Istec promotes a strong experiential learning approach that combines creativity, management, teamwork, and storytelling. It is a memorable experience for students, allowing them to develop key skills while facing the challenges of the professional world.
