What is a fintech company?
Academic definitions of fintech are based on previous research or on reports from regulatory bodies and consulting firms.
By directly surveying 10 fintech and banking professionals, this study compares researchers’ perceptions of fintech with the reality experienced by the professionals surveyed. Our definition is heavily inspired by the perceptions of fintech founders.
It places greater emphasis on the concept of customer-centric innovation (as opposed to technological innovation) and on an entrepreneurial vision of fintechs, which are more independent from established players.
