Introduction to the Executive Education

Learning through competence

The educational signature
of Istec

At Istec Business School, our teaching approach is designed as a solid bridge between academic rigor and the realities of the professional world. Our pedagogical approach is based on a simple idea: students learn best when they understand why they are learning, what purpose it serves, and how they will be assessed.

Each course is designed to directly connect content to professional situations through explicit criteria, real-world simulations, and rigorous quality control.

This approach prepares students to be autonomous and responsible, meets the expectations of businesses, and allows the school to comply with international accreditation standards (AACSB, EFMD). It creates a transparent and secure environment for teachers, students, and future employers.

Learning objectives and competency-based approach

The pedagogical framework

To make teaching clear, manageable, and robust (including in audits), Istec structures its courses around Skills Acquisition Modules (SAMs), defining what students should be able to achieve at the end of each module (Learning Outcomes, LOs).

Each SAM is accompanied by a designed assessment to accurately measure learning outcomes, using consistent criteria.

This “skills → methods → criteria” approach ensures coherence between objectives, content, and assessments, and meets the CEFDG recommendations for clarity in skills and assessments. It also provides instructors with a common framework, facilitating coordination among multiple stakeholders and guaranteeing consistent student progress.

Formats closely related to the professions
  • Individual case studies, realistic group projects, research papers with oral defenses, professional theses: all formats replicate situations expected in the workplace.
  • This consistency makes the assessment transparent and defensible, while preparing students for the expectations of companies and accreditation standards (EFMD, AACSB).

Traceability and continuous improvement

Process & accreditations

International accreditations (AACSB, EFMD, EQUIS) require:

  • Explicit learning objectives
  • Direct measures of skills acquisition (assignments, deliverables, presentations)
  • Active faculty participation in Assurance of Learning
  • The ability to analyze results and implement improvement actions
  •

At Istec, the Course Leader oversees the coherence of the syllabus, materials, and methods, while also validating assessments.

The AoL (Assurance of Learning) cycle follows the principle “measure > analyze > act”: correct, analyze the results, propose improvements and participate in juries if necessary.
