Who can apply for the ISTEC Exam?

Fourth year: When they register, candidates must be in year Bac+3 or already have passed year Bac+3 or hold an equivalent foreign qualification

Candidates may only register once in the exam per academic year.

How is the Exam organised and what are the tests?

The entrance exam is held on the ISTEC Campus (128 Quai de Jemmapes 75010 Paris). Candidates must attend at 09:30 and they begin with the written tests; lunch is provided in the campus cafeteria and then the candidates meet the exam panels for the oral test (day ends at 17:30 at the latest).

These three tests are as follows: duration coefficient
1 – TAGE MAGE written test:

The TAGE MAGE (company management and administration studies aptitude test) aims to assess candidates’ skills in memorisation, understanding, analysis, reasoning and solving problems.

The TAGE-MAGE test assesses candidates’ spoken, mathematical and logical capacities in management studies in three broad fields: understanding and expression, solving arithmetic problems, reasoning and argumentation.

It takes the form of a multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ). It consists of six tests, grouped into three main parts:

  • Solving problems,
  • Spoken skills,
  • Logical reasoning.

The TAGE-MAGE test is designed so as not to give an advantage to candidates with specific training backgrounds (mathematics, etc.) and does not require any specific knowledge in management disciplines. This means that a selection can be made from candidates with different training backgrounds or candidates of different levels, and there can be an objective comparison of candidates from the same training background

2 – Written test: English

The test takes the form of a multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ). It is designed to assess candidates’ grammatical knowledge, range of common vocabulary and comprehension skills. The test uses non-specialist language and does not employ technical terms.

3 – ISTEC oral test: Individual Interview

  • Preparation of a subject of general culture (15 mins)
  • Interview on the subject of general culture + interview on motivations (30 mins in total)

This interview assesses candidates’ knowledge of general culture, their main areas of interest, human qualities, capacity to put forward proposals, ability to present their ideas in an ordered fashion, ability to succeed in their studies at ISTEC and capacity to hold future positions of responsibility in a company. The interview takes the form of a discussion with the examiners, which, in particular, covers candidates’ backgrounds, their motivations for wanting to attend ISTEC and their plans for the future.
